Be the Change You Want to See

There is a ton of bad news out there on the environmental front these days. We have the Australian and Brazilian fires, the rollback of environmental rules, the pervasive environmental problems associated with nuclear pollution near Fukushima, and so many others. It can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to manage in our heads.

I believe that the key to dealing with all of this is to recognize that one person cannot solve all of these problems. We can, of course, worry about them and strive to learn more. But we have to recognize that many of these issues are completely out of our hands.

This doesn't mean that we give up.

I love the quote from Mahatma Gandhii:  "...be the change you want to see in the world."

To me, this quote gives me great power to be the change and inspire others to be the change themselves. Indeed, this is exactly why I started the 30 Day Sustainability Challenge. I know that I can challenge myself to live a more sustainable life and I also know that if I put a group together to be the change, they will influence more people to live a more sustainable life as well.

We only have one planet and we have to work together to ensure that it can sustain not only us but future generations. By changing ourselves we change the world.

If you are interested in being part of the 30 Day Sustainability Challenge, just send me a note at Robertbrinkmann@rocketmail.com and I will get you in the closed Facebook group.
