Lake Lanier Works Park

Today I continue my series featuring my photos of state and local parks of the United States. Today we visit Lake Lanier Works Park which is an Army Corps of Engineers park near Atlanta. This park is unusual in that it is an Army Corps of Engineers park. Of course the main purpose of the Corps is to manage large projects on navigable waterways and parks are a secondary mission. They were involved with the building of the dam at Lake Lanier in the 1950's and continue to manage the dam and many of the public lands on the shores of the lake.

While the main purpose of the lake is to supply a steady water supply to Atlanta, there are many recreational activities on the shore of the lake.
