I am pleased to introduce a new contributor, Neil Schloth, to On the Brink. Long time readers of the blog might remember his special report on Superstorm Sandy and its impacts on Long Island.
Neil is currently a Senior in Hofstra University's Honors College majoring in Information Technology and minoring in Sustainability Studies. He works on campus with the Office of Student Leadership and Activities as an Orientation Leader, as well as in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a Senior Pride Guide and I.T. Consultant. Throughout the year, he is also a Teaching Assistant with the Zarb School of Business, V.P. of the Hofstra Information Technology Association, and President of the University's All-Male Acappella group, The Hofstra Dutchmen.
Neil recently completed his honors research in my course, "Issues in Urban and Suburban Sustainability," in which he conducted an analysis of existing and future sustainable lighting infrastructure at the Hofstra University Axinn Library. Following graduation, Neil plans to attend graduate school to pursue a Masters of Science, and aims to work with the Federal Government in an agency supporting national security or energy production.
Neil is very interested in a number of aspects of sustainability. Most recently, Neil took over the Hofstra student garden this summer to use it for team building exercises with his colleagues working as orientation leaders.
Neil has a great future ahead of him and it will be interesting to hear from him along his journey.
